American Flag Necktie Mania

American Flag Necktie
For the ten year anniversary of the tragedy of Sept 11 the perfect gift for the man in your life is an American Flag Necktie. Patriotic expression could not be more wonderfully exhibited personally with more class and dignity.

Patriotism could not have been more absolute than what Americans and the world realized in the days after 9-11. American flags were displayed proudly everywhere on car antennas, on homes, illustrated on apparel, and as patriotic ties for men. For the American male American Flag ties became an iconic symbol of what it meant to be a proud American.

The demand for patriotic flag ties were a boom to the necktie manufacturers and retailers that was surely welcomed. Department stores and specialty retailers selling in kiosks in malls and on the Internet could hardly keep the flag ties in stock as the desire to wear the “Old Glory” as a novelty necktie became a fashion phenomenon. Pilots and male flight attendants seemed to set the patriotic necktie fashion trend at first, which soon caught on with businessmen, waiters and waitresses and car salesmen.

It was not just the novelty necktie manufacturers that produced the American Flag neckties designs. It was again Mark Abramhoff of Ralph Marlin Ties with a wonderful collection of silk and poly American Flag theme ties that answered the retail call - that he was already producing in his line of patriotic ties which he introduced at he start of Gulf War One.  The designers of Jerry Garcia ties, Electric Neckwear, Eagles Wings, MLB and two of the largest necktie companies in the world; Superba, and Randa also created wonderful themed patriotic ties.

American patriotism became such a fashion statement, whether as a Stars and Stripes Tee Shirt, a scarf, or a flag necktie that is was not since Pearl Harbor that such a heart-felt pride in the U.S.A. was realized. For at least the expression of the spirit of country and the desire to be counted among the free and brave it was as if everyone in the United States was overwhelmed with patriotism. Men, women and children, cars, homes, and businesses proudly had the American Flag displayed with pride in one way or another.

What Does Your Necktie Say About You?

Superman Collector Necktie
A Necktie Is The Perfect Accessory To Show Your Personality.

Are you conservative or liberal?  Do you love art work, sports - are you fun to be with or are you too serious and boring?

Neckties play an effective role in a man's wardrobe. Whether it be to identify a cause, occupation, a group or just to wear great art. Ties are great conversation starters and give a person a sense of self.

"Tell a man you like his necktie and you will see his personality unfold like a flower." - Countess Mara, 1950.

Hot Rod Flame Tie
The trend today in neckwear is more than a logo on a tie it's about individuality and style. From the latest trend to the conservative, a necktie says something about your style and reflects values.

The most popular colors have been traditional colors. Close to two thirds of all ties sold are either in the red or burgundy color wave.

Do You Collect Neckties?

Some men have collected marbles, baseball cards or action figures as a boy growing up and even neckties later on. During the 1940s there were many famous necktie collectors. The owner of the New York Stork Club, Sherman Billingsley had a collection of three thousand ties.

Men started necktie swapping clubs in the 1940s. A man could take his ten worst neckties to the club and exchange them for another man's ten worst neckties. Hard to say if any of the men went home with a better selection of neckties but they did have fun.

Patriotic Neckties
Necktie swapping became extremely popular as a means of passing on unwanted neckwear. Men would stop each other in the middle of busy city streets to swap their necktie. Some of this swapping was done with perfect strangers.

After 9-11 American men proudly wore American Flag neckties, exclaiming their patriotism with a fashion statement that was unmistakable.  There was no question what the patriotic tie was saying about the man wearing it.

The Great Necktie Wars Have Started

Lose the necktie at Colton steakhouse

Decapitation of neckties is a ritual at this steak house.  Now, I am certain that the demise of civilization is up-stoppable.

The story starts off like this: It starts with the tie. Diners who are rash enough to visit Pinnacle Peak in neckwear get it removed. The hard and/or fun way is when a food server cuts it off with some impressively sharp scissors and makes you sing "Home on the Range" to your dining party. read more here

This is a comment I made on that blog that promotes the Colton Steakhouse:

Man this just kills me. Those poor ties, they never meant to hurt anyone. There is even a Picasso up on that wall - I have to sit back in my chair or I may just have a panic attack. Well its a free country isn't it,  but why take out the frustration of daily life on a fashion accessory that is actually a very wonderful form of expression. So, I have decided to start a forum called "I Love or Hate Neckties and this post will be among the first examples of the phenomenon of this society's conflict with neckties. As well, I will be sure to post this one on my blog http://nicetiestore.blogspot.com/ with a courtesy link back to your post.

After all I am a gentlemen but as they say all is fair in love and war. I must stand my ground and take some creative action here. I think the Great Necktie War has started.

Cordially yours

Jeffrey Hunter

You may want to read an earlier post I made in March - actually my second and one of the reason I started this bog -  http://nicetiestore.blogspot.com/2010/03/i-love-ties.html

More and more I see this overwhelming hatred towards neckties. When I had a necktie kiosk at the Irvine Spectrum Center iand Fashion Island in Newport Beach in Southern California men would go out of their way to make awfull comments and with no regard for decency attack my tie business with vigor. Even some of friends make jokes about my nektie affection.

So I am fighting back now.  The glove are off BRO.  The Great Necktie War has Started.  Stay tuned for the post that will have the forum link and further necktie "hater" alerts.

Obama and Cameron Appear To Agree On Everything, Down To Their Neckties

On his first official visit to the U.S. President Obama has a friendly chat with British Prime Minister, David Cameron. Check out their taste in neckties.

July 20, 2010  -- Andrew Malcolm

An outbreak of serious friendship in the White House today as President Obama went to great lengths (see body language in photo above) to belie well-documented suspicions that he's muffed the intimate U.S.-British intimacy on previous meetings between the former ruler and the formerly ruled.

On hand today was Britain's new Conservative Prime Minister, David Cameron, making his first official White House visit and receiving the royal treatment from the Democratic president -- both a coveted Oval Office photo opportunity and a joint media availability in the East Room. (See full transcript below, as usual.) When then-Labor P.M. Gordon Brown first visited Obama, he got neither, though he did receive a toy helicopter.

Conservative Cameron, citing the tough economy at home, traveled to Washington this time in business class on a commercial flight, shunning the far more expensive government or charter jet.

Anyway, things between the allies now look suddenly all hunky-dory on Afghanistan, the Lockerbie bomber, Iranian nukes, BP, the economy, English as a common language, right on down to how amazingly tidy the Obama daughters' bedrooms are. During their three-hour get-together the two leaders, who hadn't seen each other in almost an entire month since Toronto, even discussed their nations' varying brews.

So Paul Revere can sleep well tonight.

Larry King Milk Mustache Photo (1998)

Larry King and Another Fun Novelty Tie

Got Milk ?

Larry King is known for wearing flamboyant, loud and very unique ties. A clever idea came across the Milk people, somebody, maybe Larry King himself thought that this novelty necktie by Ralph Marlin would help sell the idea - even if the mustache would be over looked.

This tie with cows on it called "Herd 'O Cows" is no longer made and is collector item now. I imagine Larry King kept his and if he did not he will probably want one. If you want one of these killer novelty neckties for yourself we have good news for you. We have three for sale and once those go we probably can get a couple more. That’s because we are the best at the necktie game.

A Suitable Wardrobe

Shirt Cuffs and Thier Closing

Dress shirts have cuffs of various styles, and though few contemporary cuffs are as noticeable as the ones in the illustration, the style of cuff a man wears says some small thing about him. That is because cuffs are usually chosen to match the formality of an occasion, and deliberately or accidentally adding to or subtracting from the generally accepted formality is a statement of its own.  Click on the link for more info

A Star Wars Ties

Original Photograph by Jeffrey Hunter - copyright 2003

This is a life size Yoda about 4 feet tall and he was as real as possible, almost C.G.I. Real "Official Licensed Star Wars Tie wear I will." I love Star Wars but not the newer ones like I love the first three which became the last three numbers 4, 5 and 6. It is charming although confusing enough that Yoda talks backwards. I guess for a guy that is nostalgic making the prequels ruined something that had become a special thing for me. Now I was having to except a story that explains stuff that replaced my imagination of what was possible - the events before Luke Skywalker would ever hold a light saber in his hand.

Yuu may be wondering how I was able to find Yoda let alone get the chance to tie the Star Wars Yoda Tie around his neck. That is easy; just down the street from where my home used to bed in Imperial Beach there was a doughnut shop where the Jedi Master Yoda was very proudly but obscurely displayed high on top of a Coca Cola Machine.

Making Yoda look like he is in outer space was not as easy as finding him but I was able to fix all of that in Photo Shop. The blue horizontal pattern is what was white vertical blinds and I have no idea how I did the rest of the background as this was back in 2003, but it sure is a convincing look me. I stood on a chair to take the shot as Yoda's master ( yes he now has a master at least this Yoda ) would not let me dare touch hum. His value according to the doughnut shop owner was hundreds of millions as there were not many life size Yodas made and he somehow got his through a Star Wars Coca Cola campaign.

It was sad to see Yoda being bullied around by the doughnut man but heck this was Imperial Beach not Hollywood and not a long time ago in a galaxy far away either.

The Mathematicians Are at It Again – The Math Equation to Tying Ties

I found this years ago surfing the web.   - Jeffrey Hunter

How to correctly tie the perfect Windsor knot - LtCfRtLfCtRfLtCfT

At Cambridge University's prestigious Cavendish Laboratories in England, two mathematical physicists, Thomas Fink, and Yong Mao, tackled the question; How to tie neckties?  They concluded that -

  • First: that the necktie has two distinct ends, one wide and one narrow, which led to the fact that only the wide part, (the active end), moves during necktie knotting.
  • Second: that the movement is divided into three distinct areas, the left (-L-), the right (-R-), and the center (-C-).
  • Third: that the movements of tying a tie carries the active part towards (-T-) or away from (-F-) the shirt, alternatively. The special move at the end is going through the center, or pull through (-T-).
  • Forth: Now the easy part that should clear up all the fuss about tying ties; the mathematical equation.
  • Finally! How to correctly tie the perfect Windsor knot - LtCfRtLfCtRfLtCfT
