Sexy Necktie Design - Polka Dot Ties

Women influence men's tie design
Since before the turn of the 20th Century retailers had started to notice a trend in shopping that had a profound influence on the fashion design of men’s neckties. Since it was women that buying ties for their husbands; manufactures started producing ties that had flair - vibrant patterns and bold colors. Prior to this ties we more or less mundane in style and design, mostly striped and not in loud, regarding colors, or contrast. Appealing to their sence of color and style was a natural for the designers of neckties.

With this, the modern necktie was born regarding the use of color and design. Wearing sexy ties, if you may, soon became a fashion trend that lives on to this day. At first the British produced polka dot ties, and it was not long before paisley ties, abstract patterns, Art Deco designs, novelty themes and almost every creative possibility was explored as a design for men’s neckties.

So if you think women do not have any authority in what men wear and how just consider the fact that even men’s under ware is designed with women in mind. As for neckties men would still be wearing only striped ties. Just to think how boring that would be is enough to make a regular guy wear a Happy Face tie.

Hey Nice Tie

Cheryl Cole - Image from www.mrnicetie.co.uk/.
 "Hey nice tie,"
If you wear ties then you have heard this before. If you do not wear ties then obviously you have not heard this before and you should read this.  Regardless, this is kind of funny and worth reading.

What does such a compliment mean?  What is the person really telling you when you hear that you have good taste in neckties, from strangers or even friends? The real intentions of this flattery depends on what tie you are wearing, a fashion or novelty necktie, who you are, where you are, and who the person is who is paying the compliment. After all, people can tend to lie, or at least be less than honest when saying such things. How many times is someone really having a great day when asked. "how is it going?" or "how are you?" and their reply is "great!" Most of the time the answer is not the real truth or even close as most people will not be comfortable saying "I am having a horrible day," That is private stuff especially if there is gossip that become part of your personal world or possibly just the easiest answer to avoid conversation with a someone of no interest.  Men may exclaim to a woman how pretty she looks just to be polite. A woman may tell a co-worker at work, especially a man how handsome he looks, hoping to get a raise.  And men and women do not always tell the truth when asked if they are married as that could discourage some advances from a woman towards a man or completely ditch the chance of a man looking for some quick intimate company for one night.   Then, of course, one the biggest lies of all, "the check is in the mail."

Now that we have established that people can be less than honest in conversation - especially in casual or brief encounters the necktie comment can be fully understood. Here are several possible truths of what the "hey nice tie," compliment really means.

The person actually is being very cordial and is fond of your necktie.

The person is lying and thinks that you tie sucks and you actually have the worst taste in fashion in the world and he is laughing at you a second after he is out of view.

The person really likes your tie because your wearing a novelty necktie that has Darth Vader or Spiderman on it and in their eyes you are the coolest guy in the world.

The person hates neckties, and has made a fool of you in front of his pals or maybe your pals who may not be wearing ties.

The person is trying to distract you so he can steal your briefcase, pick your pocket, or mug you.

The person is kissing up to you because you are his boss and he or she wants a day off.

The person is trying to impress his friends or maybe his girlfriend that he is fashion wise and a polite gentleman, even he he isn't.

The person is a friend or a co-worker and about to ask you for a loan.

The person is a pan-handler softening you up for a handout.

The person is a woman and she is picking you up for sex.

The person is a man and he is picking you up for sex.

The person is a man dressed as a women and he-she is picking you up for sex.

The person is a prostitute and she or he is about to proposition you for sex that you will have to pay for.

The person is your wife and you have become suspicious about her, so she is trying to change the subject because she is not going shopping, she is being unfaithful and about to meet her lover.

The person is trying to sell you something - like more neckties. ( which I will be honest here - was something that I did thousands of times selling ties to car salesmen or to guys walking past my tie cart Too Sexie Ties at the Irvine Spectrum center ).

This is an example of one of those golden rules to follow, that we have all learned already. Surely this scenario falls into the category entitled,  Do Not Believe Everything You Read, See or Hear.  That applies to everything, and everyone even - men's neckties.

Men in Ties

I found this blog post today which interestingly enough continues from an earlier post that concerned necktie popularity as reported in USA Today about two and a half years ago. Revisiting this question is a means of understanding if ties are becoming less popular or regained the attraction this fashion accessory once commanded. I am planning a similar study of this issue that actually has great emotion attached. Some men actually hate ties as if they were a threat to their freedom of personality. You may want to check out a post I made nearly ten months ago called “I love ties” check it out  - which started out as a response to a blog post I found called “die necktie die.”

The study that I plan to execute on line and in a multiple choice questionnaire will be affectionately called TIE WARS - Jeffrey Hunter

Delving into the archives for a story about whether men's ties are disappearing off the scene. How about you? Do you like to see men in ties? Are you a man who hates/loves them?

On June 17, 2008, USA Today ran an article questioning whether men's ties were disappearing off the scene. Over two years later, ties are still going strong, and men are still looking great in them! Following is my original post: The USA Today article - find it here  “The necktie, knot what it used to be, still hangs on”

Are neckties going the way of the buffalo?

Photos of some popular movie stars wearing ties that surely set trends in men's fashion.

After Father's Day-the day probably most associated with the giving of ties, save as Christmas presents - USA Today questions whether the necktie will "hang on" much longer.  The story reports that "the recent decision by the Men's Dress Furnishings Association--the trade group for America's neckwear makers--to shut down has some folks tied up in knots."

Admittedly, we're living in the day of Casual Friday....and Monday...and Tuesday...etc. The tie is not the icon it used to be. The story cites a Gallup poll that found just 6 per cent of men wearing neckties to work each day, down from10 percent in 2002. More than two-thirds of the men surveyed said they never wear a tie to work.

However, there are still men who enjoy dressing up and looking sharp. "When you wear a tie it still says ... you're dressed for the occasion," the story quotes Amy Klaris, a retail strategist at consulting firm Kurt Salmon Associates.
I can sympathize with men who think a tie feels like a noose around their neck. I don't know if I would enjoy wearing one all the time, just as, being a woman, I wouldn't want to have to wear high-heeled shoes all the time. However, I do think my husband looks gorgeous when he's dressed up in a suit and tie...and I would hate to see the necktie die out completely.

When I originally posted this story, I got some great comments from readers. Here are a few:

Kay: I love to see a man dressed up! But I have often wondered who first decided to tie a piece of fabric around their neck and call it fashionable... It is a strange practice, really.

Joel: I personally think neckties were designed by Torquemada.Another problem I have. My neck is too large for the size shirt I wear. If I get a shirt with a large enough neck, the sleeves are too long. They used to have extenders for necks, but they're increasingly hard to find.  So I either wear turtlenecks or just an open shirt. I'll wear a tie to a funeral, but that's about it.

Randy (a former co-worker of mine): I will always believe in ties. Even when one of our co-workers at the station begged us all to go to tieless attire, I still wore one a lot. Maybe you remember that. I still believe that a tie is a standard of professional dress and should be. Sure, I did tire at times of them, but if a man wears the proper neck size shirt, you can get used to the tie. However, I come from the old school of thought.

Ann-Marie: Josh Holloway would look good in a suit made out of garbage. But he looks extra yummy in a tie. (and no garbage)

Lea: I love a man in a tie, especially mine and thank goodness, he is still very much a believer in the tie. Such a professional and polished look! Love it!

So, how do YOU feel about men in ties? I'd love to get some more great comments! What do you think? Please post below - Cindy
